Greetings,

The new ABRC says:

1.6. Acknowledgement of Attacks 6. A valid blow to the foot or leg will disable the leg.
a. The fighter must then fight kneeling, sitting, or posted.

When I was first authorized several years ago, I was trained to always go to my knees when legged. Is that no longer the case?
We are trying to start a new branch where I live and we have about 6 people who want to fight rapier. We have no active marshals in our area, and I haven't fought in... 2 years, I suppose. Right now we are training to post when legged, mostly because of the snow. Should we suck it up and go to our knees or is it optional?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

According to what I know of the rules at the moment. We can post if we want to. We can kneel if we want to. We can pop up on our knees and chase you down.

Anything a Heavy can do, we can do now. With the glorious addition of posting.

Yay.

Cheers,
Cormac

I suggest going to your knees. The posting rule was originally for people who had physical difficulty kneeling or getting up off the ground.

I see fighters, who are fairly static when they fight, leave their legs open knowing they can won't be forced into a disadvantage if they are struck in the leg. This feels very cheesy.

It is very much like the rules of the Kingdom of the West about arms. If you are struck in the hand, you lose you parrying device but get to continue to fight single sword with you other arm able to continue parrying. I've heard it referred to the "bloody stump" style of fighting.

You can walk on your knees. That is fine. It makes you change your fight. To keep a leg planted, like a non-dribbling basketball player, is dumb. You are still putting the weight on the wounded leg and if it has very little impact on your fighting style, then how is this fair?

But you are allowed to post. And if you do, expect me to rush you for a sweet dagger death. :D
