Event Reports

May Crown, Montengarde, May 2009

Report by Thoré
We had 42 fighters in the cadets tournament Saturday, 15 in the Champions / WS Tournament on Sunday. The field for the cadets tournament was too small for the number of fighters, and we had three injuries, which is both rare and unfortunate. The Champions / WS tournament on Sunday had the best fighting I've seen in the SCA in years. Very enjoyable. 205 pics of that tournament can be found at my flickr page. There were lots of opportunities for rapier pickup fights on Sunday as well, as we had our own separate eric, away from the main tournament field.

Non-fighting: Excellent event. Lots of merchants, lots of people, decent weather, good opportunities to socialize.

Myrgan Wood Spring Championships, March 2009

Report by Thoré
Myrgan Wood Spring Championships ended up being much smaller than I'd anticipated (it had 8 fighters last year, and I had boldy predicted 10-15 this year). Four fighters competed for the championship (videos of all the fights available elsewhere on this site), and seven people entered the bear pit tournament afterwards. The fighting was fun, although you could tell it was early in the season - no one was really on top of their game.

Non-fighting: The feast was also smaller than I'd expected, with 40ish people attending. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and the food was good. The children's equestrien activities went over well - kudos to whomever put all the effort into creating that. I had to bail immediately after court for the 3 hour drive home in the dark, so I missed out on any evening festivities that may have occurred.

Taverna Desgraca - Valley Wold, March 2009

This was a tavern event (not on the Principality Calendar, just for locals), much like Montengarde's monthly tavern events. There was a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and a good time was had by all. Six rapier fighters turned up for the Phoenix tournaments and pirate ship melee scenario. There was to be candle snuffing and other mayhem in the evening, but I had to leave right after the afternoon fighting (I had tickets for the philharmonic). I will try to get a report from an intrepid reporter who did stay for the evening festitivities.

Avacal Feb Investiture - Myrgan Wood Feb 2009

Intrepid Correspondents Francis Coulter Hill, Adelheid Holzfallerin, and Pol of the Black Fist, among others, contributed to this report.

Championship Tournament details: 19 fighters. Format: Round robin seeding an elimination portion. Winner: Ilyanth 2nd: Pol of the Black Fist

Overall impression: Funtastic. The people who made it out of the round robin all had orangutan arms. The Dons weren't competing for the championship. The guys who made it to the finals didn't enter the cadet tournament, lazies. Robert of Clan Gunn was taken as a cadet by Don Iain.

Non-fighting portions of the event: Funtastic! Not enough random singing, but still funtastic. Saskatoon is home of some sort of plague - more than half the Calgary contigent got sick while there or within a couple days of getting home.
